But we understand that the journey isn’t always easy. Financial constraints can sometimes cloud the path. But with AFKA’s Bursary, your academic ambitions are within reach.

The AFKA Bursary: Who is Eligible?

Embarking on a higher education journey? The AFKA Bursary Program is here to provide you with the necessary financial backing and unwavering support. You may qualify for an AFKA Bursary if you are a:

  • Child/Youth placed in foster care or kinship care
  • An adult who was formerly in care as a child or youth
  • Adopted child of a licensed foster or approved kinship caregiver
  • Biological child of a licensed foster or approved kinship caregiver

Taking the Next Step: Application Details

Express Yourself:
Pen a 300-500 word essay on “Why I Want to Further my Education and be considered for an AFKA Bursary.”

Provide Proof:
Please show proof of application or enrollment in a post-secondary institution for the current year or as soon as you get it.

Seek Recommendations:
Obtain at least one recommendation letter from your current or past foster/kinship caregiver or social worker. Also, secure another letter from a school principal, teacher, guidance counsellor, or employer. Ensure these letters include your name and describe the nature and duration of your association.

Note:
Incomplete applications won’t be considered. Ensure you’ve covered all the points above. Funds will be applied directly to the financial account at the school the selected bursary recipients will be attending.
