Office Closure
Remote support and services will still be provided by the AFKA to foster and kinship caregivers

Due to a growing number of our staff following the recommendations to self-isolate to prevent the spread of COVID-19 if you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, we have made the difficult decision to close our office effective today, March 17th, 2020 at 1:00 PM. At this point, the closure will be for the next two weeks. We will provide any updates as we learn more information and as this situation evolves.

What does this mean for foster and kinship caregivers?
We will be picking up regular operations remotely from our homes to ensure our support and services are still available for Alberta’s foster and kinship caregivers. Things may look slightly different in how we provide these, but we remain here for you. We will be providing support via telephone and electronic methods such as email and online meetings.

We appreciate your patience as we navigate through all of this in the coming days ahead.

As always, our 24-hr support line is available to foster and kinship caregivers by calling 1-800-667-2372.

March 16, 2020

As you know, we are currently experiencing unprecedented times here in Alberta, Canada and around the world. It is important that we all do everything that we can to help minimize the spread of COVID-19.

At the Alberta Foster and Kinship Association we are doing our part while continuing to offer support and services to Alberta’s Foster and Kinship caregivers. The health of caregivers, our board and staff as well as everyone in Alberta and beyond is of extreme importance to us. Given the current situation, we have been and are implementing a number of precautions in our normal operations and are monitoring updates as the situation changes.

Our office currently remains open to staff, however, staff who need to work from home are now equipped to utilize the technology available to us, enabling remote access. We have meeting software available which allows remote meetings to occur and we will be utilizing these services to provide support to caregivers, host staff meetings or meetings of the Board of Directors etc.

While the typical way we do things may vary and look a little different at this time, we want to stress that we are here, as always, to provide support and services to Alberta’s foster and kinship caregivers.

We ask that if you require support from the AFKA that you please contact our office by phone or email; we are currently restricting in person meetings and support unless absolutely necessary. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide any updates as needed.
Our 24 hour support line will continue to be available at 1-800-667-2372.

We hope that everyone stays safe and healthy in the coming days and weeks ahead. We will get through this together!
